Tom has been Chief Executive of AgResearch since September 2010, and has worked in New Zealand science for more than 20 years. Prior to joining AgResearch, he spent 17 years with the New Zealand Forestry Research Institute (Scion), as a practising scientist, science manager, and five years as Chief Executive.
He has had frequent assignments on advisory boards, external review panels and international science and trade delegations, including the NZ-US Joint Commission on Science and Technology Co-operation and the NZ-EU Joint Commission on Science and Technology Co-operation.
He currently holds a number of industry, science and education governance roles including EpiGen, Farmax Ltd, Grasslanz Technologies Ltd, South Island Dairy Development Corp, DEEResearch, ScienceNZ, Waiariki Institute of Technology, and two New Zealand Centres of Research Excellence (Riddet Institute and Gravida – The National Research Centre on Growth and Development).
His science background is in genetics and he holds a Bachelors degree from Bucknell University and his PhD is from Pennsylvania State University.

Andrew McSweeney was appointed to the newly created role of Shared Services Director in August 2011.
Andrew came to AgResearch from PGG Wrightson Limited as Group General Manager of Human Resources and Corporate Services.
Prior to this Andrew held executive positions as General Manager Human Resources for ANZ National Bank, Human Resources Manager for Fujitsu and Head of Human Resources for BNZ.
Finance & Business Performance Director

Sharon Cresswell joined AgResearch as the Finance and Business Performance Director from September 2016.
Having been with PwC since 1996 Sharon’s background is predominantly in accounting, finance and risk management.
Over the years she also gained valuable experience across broader business areas, including strategic planning, business process improvement including reporting and business case development.

Greg began his career with AgResearch in 2010 as Section Manager of Animal Improvement.
Greg was Chief Scientist at Genesis Research and Development, a collaboration with the University of Auckland, and was one of their founding scientists.
During his time with Genesis, Greg oversaw the development of RNAi therapeutics and gained a sound understanding of science management and progressing scientific discoveries to market.

Monique Devereux was appointed as Communications and Marketing Director in August 2016.
Prior to working at AgResearch she headed the Communications and Ministerial Services functions at the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority, as the acting Deputy Chief Executive.
Monique’s background is in journalism and she has a collective 20 years’ experience working in print, radio and television news.
National Health & Safety Manager

Andy Anderson was appointed to the newly created role of National Health and Safety Manager in August 2016.
Until taking up the role, Andy was providing health and safety consultancy services as the South Island Senior Advisor at Beca.
Andy has a diverse and extensive health and safety background including senior auditor for ACC, senior audit and programme specialist with Telarc/SAI and advisory positions with University of Canterbury and Skellerup Industries.
Kaiurungi Ahuwhenua Maori

Chris Koroheke is AgResearch’s Kaiurungi Ahuwhenua Maori and his role on the Executive Team is to strengthen the relationships across the burgeoning Maori agribusiness sector.
His background is in developing resources through building relationships across organisations or iwi, in both environmental and commercial areas. This experience spans almost 30 years in which time he has as worked across central and local government.
Chris’ iwi affiliations are with the Ngati Maniapoto people, Ngati Wai, Te Rarawa and Te Aupouri, and Ngati Tarawhai.
People and Culture Director

Lee Gardiner was appointed as People & Culture Director in June 2017. Prior to this she worked for farm machinery importer and retailer Landpower / CLAAS Harvest Centre where she was the GM – People & Brand for 7 years.
Lee has over 20 years’ experience in human resources management across a diverse range of sectors including agriculture, tourism and aboriginal education.
Her keys areas of experience have been leading large-scale change and culture transformation, and putting in place the best approaches to align with an organisation’s strategy.
