EnCoate™ is the bacteria stabilization company.

EnCoate™ offers unique solutions for customers needing to stabilize bacteria at ambient or higher temperatures leading to an extended shelf life for food and agricultural applications.

Using a patented biopolymer system, EnCoate™ has technology that can stabilize and extend the shelf life of microbes in Probiotics, Bio-control agents and Seed Coatings.

EnCoate™ was formed in 2003 as a 50:50 joint venture between AgResearch and New Zealand's largest agricultural chemical company Ballance Agri-Nutrients Ltd. The initial focus of the company was stabilising existing and novel bacteria in the agricultural sector, especially in bio-control area. This led to the commericalisation of the Bioshield product.

Encoate™ is now also using its technology for probiotic stabilisation in the food industry.
 

 Key information

 
  • Technology originally developed to kill grass grub in New Zealand pastures is being used to produce health enhancing ingredients that can be added to snack bars, cereal, beverages and even pet food.
