After downloading, click on ov5setup.exe to install the program.
Download components separately Click on each component to download separately.
For the main model, click on the self extracting file ov5mainsetup.exe to install the program.
For the other components, click on the self-extracting file, making sure that the component is added to the same directory as the main program so that links within the main program work properly.
Note that the other components are not needed for the main Overseer nutrient budget software to run except that the main program will report a file not found error if a link to one of the components is attempted.
You can see which components you need to download or update by running our Overseer Version Checker. Choose to "Open" or "Run" the program when prompted. It will examine your computer and tell you what components are needed.
Description of Components The following section has a brief description of each component that can be downloaded.
Main model The main model is the user interface and algorithms used to calculate and produce the reports in the nutrient budget program. There are links from the main program to other components list below. For the main model, click on the self extracting file ov5mainsetup.exe to install the program.
Help file This is an HTML help file that must be stored in the same directory as the overseer5.exe file. The help file contains information on how to fill out forms within the OVERSEER® nutrient budgets model, how to interpret output from the reports, and mitigation options when the reports indicate an adverse environmental impact. This component can be used independently of the main program.
Use of Fertiliser (HTML help file) This is an HTML help file that must be stored in the same directory as the overseer5.exe file. The Use of fertiliser is an HTML help file that contains information from the FertResearch booklets ‘Use of Fertiliser of dairy farms’ and ‘Use of Fertiliser for sheep/beef farms’. These booklets contain information on the relationship between soil tests and pasture production, target soil test ranges for near maximum production, raising or maintaining soil nutrient status, timing of fertiliser applications, monitoring soil fertility status including soil testing protocols, and more. This component can be used independently of the main program.
Code of Practice for Fertiliser Use (HTML help file) This is an HTML help file that must be stored in the same directory as the overseer5.exe file. The ‘Code of Practice for Fertiliser Use’ is an electronic form of the FertResearch ‘Code of Practice for Fertiliser Use’ and can be used independently of the main program. The FertResearch ‘Code of Practice for Fertiliser Use’ contains information on the use of fertilisers, including 21 fact sheets and addendum on specific aspects of fertiliser use for the pastoral, arable and horticulture industries. It is a valuable reference document, covering topics such as nutrient status, estimating nutrient requirements, fertiliser product selection, calculating fertiliser requirements, storage and compatibility of fertiliser, fertiliser application techniques, record keeping, economic viability, N leaching to groundwater, open water contamination through run-off, contamination
of open water, social/third party effects, spreading fertiliser, fertiliser use, and it’s potential impact on surface and groundwater, managing nitrate use, and it’s levels in water and soil, making fertiliser choices (Fertmark Scheme), the impact of fertilisers on New Zealand’s greenhouse gas emissions, organic farming and fertiliser, cadmium in New Zealand - it’s presence and management. This component can be used independently of the main program.
Photos (PDF file) This file contains photos natural and constructed wetland conditions and grass filter strip bypass conditions. This file should be stored in the same directory as the overseer5.exe file to be accessed directly from the program, or can be opened directly using any file PDF viewer.
