Client: The University of Sydney, Australia
Project: Worked with the AgResearch Bioinformatics Team in the five-year
$30M SheepGenomics (SG) program, and ongoing work with the International Sheep Genomics
Consortium (ISGC).
Genetics Laboratory Professor Frank Nicholas: “The AgResearch Bioinformatics Team
has worldclass expertise and experience. I can’t think of any aspect of bioinformatics
where SG felt that it was not receiving the best service available anywhere in the
world.” “The team has not only made major contributions in gathering, editing, storing
and analysing enormous quantities of sequence data, but also simulated a range of
possible strategies at every step along the way, providing invaluable guidance as
to how the ISCG can operate most cost-effectively.”
Client: The University of Auckland, New Zealand, and Nutrigenomics New Zealand
Project: AgResearch provides bioinformatic services to Nutrigenomics New
Zealand, a group looking at how foods and food components affect health at the molecular
genetic level.
Head of Nutrition, The University of Auckland; and Programme Leader, Nutrigenomics
New Zealand Professor Lynnette R. Ferguson: “An essential part of the ambitious
programme set up for the New Zealand national Nutrigenomics Centre (Nutrigenomics
New Zealand) involves a substantial database. This integrates data from 55 individuals
across New Zealand, and needs to be maintained accurately, with data easily retrieved
and managed. The ability to utilise the AgResearch servers, and the involvement
of the AgResearch experts in establishing systems for data analysis has been an
important part of the continuing success of this important Centre.”
Client: University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand
Project: Seeking to understand how honey bee workers become Queen bees through
genetic expression profiling.
Director of Genetics Otago Dr Peter Dearden: “The difference to our research through
teaming up with AgResearch’s Bioinformatics Team is like night and day. They have
turned masses of data we didn’t know what to do with into a fantastic resource to
help answer our scientific questions.”
“They are right on the cutting-edge of bioinformatics,
giving us expert advice on the best technology and tools to make sense of our data.
They have worked hard to meet our deadlines, and certainly worked to our budget
very well.” “They have been great at finding solutions for us – we tell them exactly
what we want and they have delivered.”
