We focus on growing long-term, collaborative partnerships with Māori agribusinesses.

Our approach

We grow partnerships with Māori agribusinesses and prepare them for research collaborations to meet the current needs and future aspirations for their business, shareholders, hapū or iwi members.

We connect Māori agribusinesses with AgResearch scientists to co-design collaborative solutions, including both mātauranga Māori and AgResearch knowledge and capabilities.

We design policies and practices for society-supported pathways to the future.

AgResearch is committed to contributing to and supporting the growth of Māori agribusiness.

Mātauranga Māori, our guiding force

Centred around the strength of having more than one knowledge system contributing to solutions for some of the most complex challenges facing our communities, we strive for an approach where we add knowledge and impact to our science, so that we can respond with Māori to their needs and aspirations, and also help provide better solutions to farmers and all of society in Aotearoa New Zealand.

With mātauranga Māori as our guiding force, we work with Māori, science, industry and government, and we assess the future of all research endeavours through more than just a financial lens. We embrace sustained economic outcomes alongside environmental, social and cultural outcomes.

Growing connections between our scientists and Māori farmers and landowners brings huge collective wisdom and a hunger for positive change in line with kaitiakitanga of the land.
