Our mission is to create a strong, sustainable pastoral agricultural sector for the benefit of New Zealand

Our purpose

AgResearch is a group of the Bioeconomy Science Institute(external link). Formed on 1 July 2025, the Bioeconomy Science Institute brings AgResearch, Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research, Plant & Food and Scion into a single organisation.

Our interim purpose is to drive innovation and commercial outcomes in the bioeconomy, using research and technology to support enduring economic growth and resilience, a healthy environment and beneficial social outcomes for New Zealand.

The Bioeconomy Science Institute will aggressively pursue opportunities to lift innovation, commercial outcomes, and adoption of advanced technology to drive economic growth across New Zealand.

Where we are

AgResearch has research centres and farms across the motu (islands).  We have two national centres (in Palmerston North and Lincoln), and two regional centres (in Hamilton and Mosgiel).

Our Strategy

As a Group of the Bioeconomy Science Institute, AgResearch is a strategy-led organisation. We aim to define success through more than just a financial lens and have developed strategies to guide us in how we approach our science.
