Muhammad Afaq Ahmed, a PhD candidate at the University of Canterbury, is collaborating with AgResearch New Zealand to advance biosecurity diagnostics. His project involves rapid diagnostics of biosecurity risk insect species using mass spectral fingerprinting to swiftly classify and identify using REIMS. This work aims to enhance New Zealand’s biosecurity by optimizing REIMS protocols, supporting the exclusion and management of invasive species to protect biodiversity and agriculture.
