I completed a Ph.D. at the University of East Anglia, UK, and subsequently undertook fungal molecular genetics research at Massey University, NZ, Tottori University, Japan, and West Virginia University, USA. I am a leading Epichloë geneticist whose research includes the identification of Epichloë alkaloid gene clusters, manipulation of these through gene editing, and the utility of Epichloë in modern cereals. I also lead research to discover and utilise endophytes in other crop species.
