My main areas of research include grassland ecology, soil science and farm systems analysis in the context of sustainable pastoral-based agricultural systems.

I have an Agricultural Science degree from Massey University and a PhD in rangeland ecology from Colorado State University. I have worked for MAFTech and AgResearch for 34 years, at the Whatawhata Research Centre, the Ruakura Research Centre (Hamilton), and for the last 15 years at the Grasslands Research Centre (Palmerston North).
